Georgia Now Considering Charging Two White Men in Killing of Ahmaud Arbery

In this day and age, it's still hard to be a black person, especially a black man. A 25-year-old, unarmed black man was out jogging, minding his own business in Georgia, when two white men gunned him down. The messed up thing is that the two men, a former police officer and his son, basically got off with the cruel murder. The story may not have gotten as much attention because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So if you haven't heard the story of Ahmaud Arbery, let's run things down to you. Back in February, Ahmaud was out jogging. Gregory McMichael, a former cop, said he spotted Ahmaud "hauling ass" down the street and McMichael figured he should take action because he thought Ahmaud was the one involved in a string of recent break-ins in the neighborhood. You see where this story is going. Well the former cop said Ahmaud even attacked his son, Travis, and fought over a shotgun, which made Travis open fire, according to CBS. The McMichaels claimed they shot Ahmaud in self-defense, although Ahmaud's dad said he was just doing his usual jog in his neighborhood. But what the McMichaels didn't know is that an unidentified witness in another car recorded the situation. It was hard to watch, but you see Ahmaud jogging down a narrow two-lane road and around a white pickup truck stopped in the right lane, its driver’s door open. It looks like Ahmaud is trying to get away and runs in front of the truck and you hear a gunshot. Then you see him struggling with a man who is holding a long gun as a second man stands in the bed of the truck brandishing a revolver. You hear more shots and then you see Ahmaud collapse to the ground. Well after that video emerged, Tom Durden, the acting district attorney for a neighboring district, said the case will go to the grand jury for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Ahmaud. Just think, without that video, these men would continue to be free with their interpretation of the story.
