Migos Can Still "Walk It, Talk it" Because They Won Copyright Lawsuit

I'm pretty sure Migos is breathing a sigh of relief. It looks like a judge has thrown out a lawsuit case. The group was battling a copyright infringement case over their song "Walk It Talk It." According to Complex, in 2018, a rapper named M.O.S. whose real name is Leander Pickett. filed the lawsuit against Migos claiming they stole his track from his 2008 mixtape. However, the rapper didn't win the case because a judge ruled in Migos' favor. The suit was over the phrase "Walk It Like I Talk It." Pickett sent a cease and desist letter for any further use of the song and even wanted money for "unspecified damages." But the judge said that particular phrase is too common to even copyright. The judge said, "Because songwriters must be free to borrow sayings and expressions from popular culture, the Second Circuit and courts in this district have found that short and commonplace phrases are not protectable, even when used as the title or repeated lyrics of a song, as is the case here."
