That's A Lawsuit: Woman Killed By Driverless Uber Car

There's times when trying to rush technology isn't a good thing.

A woman was struck and killed by a self-driving Uber car in Arizona.

Uber is temporarily stopping its self-driving car program after one of its vehicles fatally struck a woman in Arizona.

The incident is believed to be the time someone died after being hit by one of Uber’s test vehicles.

The driverless car hit Elaine Herzberg, 49, early Monday as she walked outside a crosswalk in Tempe, an eastern suburb of Phoenix, cops said.

A driver was behind the wheel, cops said, but the vehicle was in autonomous mode as it cruised north on Curry Road near Mill Ave.

The woman, whose identity hasn’t been released, later died at a hospital.Uber on Monday suspended its self-driving program in Phoenix, as well as in Toronto, Pittsburgh and San Francisco.

“Some incredibly sad news out of Arizona. We’re thinking of the victim’s family as we work with local law enforcement to understand what happened,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi tweeted Monday.

Driverless Ubers have been involved in non-fatal crashes before. The program was halted last year when a self-driving Volvo was involved in a crash in Arizona.
