Kanye West Calls Out Jay Pharoah At MIA Philly
Kanye West was not pleased with Jay Pharaoh’s impersonations at last week’s VMAs. Jay is from SNL and impersonations are what he does! Apparently Kanye wasn’t feelings these impersonations and during his Saturday set at Made In America in Philly he told the crowd how he called Jay up to check him on his jokes. He said, “They want to make a joke out of how hard we work… It's fine and all funny and everything, but don't distract from our vision. It's not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke.” He went on to say, “I’m not making it a black or white thing right now, but I’m telling you if you see a black guy anywhere, he had to work 12 times as hard.” He said a black comedian should not be making fun of other black people who are opening doors “not only for black people, but for any creatives.”
Atlantic City Shuts Down
The Atlantic City closing started this weekend as Revel closed this morning at 5am and the Showboat closed on Sunday. My mom went to Atlantic City on Saturday and she said it was packed, so the fact that these casinos are closing doesn’t mean it’s a ghost town out there. The Trump Plaza plans to close on September 16th and the will cut the 12 AC casinos down to 8. I’ve seen reports that between 5,000 – 8,000 jobs lost
Michael Sam Released
Michael Sam, a 7th round draft pick and the 1st openly gay player in the NFL, was released from the St. Louis Rams on Saturday. Sam was one of the final cuts as the team trimmed their roster down to 53 men. He took the cut gracefully and tweeted, “I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to show I can play at this level” and "I look forward to continuing to build on the progress I made here toward a long and successful career." Coach Jeff Fischer calls his release a “football decision” and said that he spoke to Sam about his release on Friday night. Reports say that given his body of work from the preseason he is very likely to end up on another team’s practice squad.
Chief Keef Is Terrible At Math
Chief Keef has made it on the internet’s list of “Stupid Rapper Tweets”. Keef was tweeting about how he was in the studio with Young Chop. He revealed that they recorded an impressive 30 songs in 3 days. Things got a little crazy when he tried to bring math/ percentages into the mix. He posted, “Me and Chop did 30 songs in 3 days! 75% written and 40% freestyle.” We know Keef is no mathematician but even in the rap game there can only be 100%. 75+40= 115% Keef.
He’s not the brightest crayon in the crayon box, but we already knew that.
Missouri Police Sued Over Handling Of Ferguson Protests
It’s no secret that the Missouri police handled some protest situations following the death of Mike Brown in a questionable manner. There were reports of peaceful demonstrators being bombarded with rubber bullets and tear gas. A group of 6 protestors have gotten together and filed a $40 million lawsuit against the department citing excessive force and unnecessary arrests. The suit accuses the officers of using “militaristic displays of force and weaponry,” and treating protestors “as if they were war combatants.” The defendants on the suit are city of Ferguson, St. Louis County, Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Delmar, Ferguson police officer Justin Cosmo, and other unnamed police officers from Ferguson and St. Louis County.
Apple Will Turns Next I Phone To Wallet
New reports suggest that Apple will turn the newest iPhone into a mobile wallet. The company has allegedly inked a deal with Visa, MasterCard and American Express that would allow owners to make payments in retail stores with their phones. They hope to be able to integrate the fingerprint capability into the payment system sometime in the future. Other companies like Google, Amazon and Paypal have tried to penetrate the mobile payment arena but up until now retailers were hesitant to jump on board. Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 6 at a press conference on September 9th.
California Plastic Bag Ban Would Be First In Nation
Many states across the country are trying to do their part for the environment by implementing a bag tax- forcing consumer to pay for every plastic bag they get from a store. The California State legislature is working on passing into law a ban on plastic bags. It would be the first ban of its kind in the country. A number of cities across the state have made plastic bags illegal but this would be a state-wide mandate if passed. One Senator in support of the law, which was voted in 22-15, said, “Single-use plastic bags not only litter our beaches, but also our mountains, our deserts, and our rivers, streams and lakes.” It must be signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown by September 30th.
