What Do You Do If You Tried to Enroll In Obamacare by the Deadline But Didn't Finish in Time?

What Do You Do If You Tried to Enroll In Obamacare by the Deadline But Didn't Finish in Time?

You may be like so many people - including me  who like to wait until the last minute.  That applies to a whole lot of people who attempted to enroll for health insurance via the Healthcare.gov before the March 31st deadline.  Murphy's law being what it is - those late comers may have had issues signing up for Obamacare because of the last minute crush.  The website itself crashed for a time during that last day.

The good news is that if you tried to enroll by midnight March 31st and didn't make it in you can continue the process but you have to act quickly.  Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders says you must finish your enrollment by April 15th.  Your coverage will start May 1st.  You can go to healthcare.gov or call the Marketplace call Center at 800-318-2596.

Now if you waited until after the deadline to start you're flat out of luck.   The Open Enrollment Period for 2015 coverage is November 15, 2014 – February 15, 2015. Individuals may also qualify for Special Enrollment Periods outside of Open Enrollment if they experience certain events.  Find out more about that here.

Now about filing your taxes by April 15th...
