Judge Temporarily Blocks Texas Abortion Law

When Texas lawmakers felt it was their right to tell women what to do with their bodies, I cringed. Of course lawmakers decided to put into law that it is illegal for a woman to have an abortion. If you haven't heard, Texas' law, which went into effect Sept. 1, bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually around six weeks of pregnancy. Well, according to USA Today, a federal judge in Texas has issued an order on Wednesday, to block the state's six-week abortion ban. Many women don't even know they are pregnant past 6 weeks sometimes. The judge, Robert Pitman said, "From the moment S.B. 8 went into effect, women have been unlawfully prevented from exercising control over their lives in ways that are protected by the Constitution." As I have said before, how can a man tell a woman what to do with her body? Why are they all up in a woman's uterus? Pitman's order blocks any officer of the state from enforcing the ban. Pitman wrote that "people seeking abortions face irreparable harm when they are unable to access abortions" and hoped temporarily blocking Texas' law would allow abortions to proceed "at least for some subset of affected individuals." However, before you get too excited, the fight over Texas' abortion ban isn't over because Texas notified Pitman that it planned to file an appeal with the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
