Usher and Others to Judge "Activist" Competition Show for CBS

I feel like I am disappointed. With all of the injustices that are currently going on, you have many activists fighting for all types of rights. You have people fighting for women's rights and the right to let us do what we want with our bodies. There have been people fighting forever just to be equals. There are people fighting about police brutality. So why am I disappointed? Because CBS decides to make a little money from some of these struggles. CBS is doing a competition show based on looking for the right activist, called "The Activist." According to Deadline, Usher, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas and Julianne Hough will co-host this Global Citizen competition series, which, is a five-week reality series that premieres at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, on CBS. The show will feature about 6 activists teamed with three high-profile public figures working together to bring change to one of three important world causes: health, education, and environment. The activists will do this by going head-to-head in challenges to promote their causes, with their success measured via online engagement, social metrics, and hosts’ input. Yes, there is a show to determine how hard an activist is working to get recognized. And there are definitely people who think this is ridiculous, like one activist and model, Jameela Jamil, who tweeted, "Couldn’t they just give the money it’s going to take to pay this UNBELIEVABLY expensive talent and make this show, directly to activist causes? Rather than turning activism into a game and then giving a fraction of the much needed money away in a “prize…?” People are dying."
