Oscars Nominations are in With Black Actors and Movies

Throughout the pandemic, a lot of theaters have closed down, however, movies were still being released. A lot of movies have been released on streaming sites and I know I've been busy keeping up with some of the most talked about movies, like Judas and The Black Messiah or One Night in Miami. With it being awards season, the Oscars have announced their nominees. And it's good to see some of the black actors are definitely getting a look this year. For years, there was a lack of black representation on the big screen. But it looks like Judas and The Black Messiah was nominated for Best Picture. And from that movie, Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Chadwick Boseman was nominated for Best Actor for his final movie role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, which also gave Viola Davis a nod for Best Actress and by the way, she is also the most Oscar-nominated black actress, according to The Jasmine Brand. And you know what? Making her acting debut in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, singer Andra Day was also nominated for Best Actress. Leslie Odom Jr. got a nod for his role in One Night in Miami, which gained an Adapated Screenplay nod and Song nomination. However, Regina Hall didn't get Best Director Oscar Nomination for One Night in Miami. And the list continues because even the animated movie Soul got a nod. Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods is nominated for Best Original Score.
