This year has been a crazy one. People have been in quarantine due to the Covid-19. Events had to be canceled. But then on top of the coronavirus, there was the unrest and protests for social justice after recents deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, to name a few. But that didn't stop the BET Awards from going down. The network celebrates 40 years with the awards in its 20th year. As BET said it, our culture can't be canceled. So instead of just canceling the big award show, they went virtual airing on BET and for the first time ever, on CBS. This show was black! This show demonstrated beautiful black people with one main message, to vote so we can change up how things happen for black people in this country! The performers definitely hit you with powerful songs and messages from DaBaby starting his performance on the ground with a knee in his neck, to Alicia Keys singing her new song and so much more, to a new rendition of Public Enemy's Fight the Power. Oh, it was an emotional, it was entertaining and it was black! The show was hosted by Amanda Seales, who, actually fit the format and theme of the political messages for the show. What did you think about the show? By the way, some of the winners included Roddy Richh who won album of the year for his debut album, "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial"; Lizzo was named best female R&B/pop artist; Burna Boy won best international act; Chris Brown and won for best male R&B/pop artist; Migos for best group; Megan Thee Stallion for best female hip hop artist; DJ Khaled with John Legend and Nipsey Hussle for best video; and Beyonce won the Humanitarian Award.
