Coronavirus Has Some Major Festivals Canceling, SXSW and Maybe Coachella

This coronavirus epidemic is beyond serious. A lot of airlines have canceled certain flights, leaving some people stranded in parts of Asia. Some people on cruises are stuck on ships until they are cleared of tests. Even Italy is looking quite quiet after a few positive tests have come out of the country. Well now, with the coronavirus and the precautions people are taking, it is effecting some major festivals. South by Southwest, which is an annual tech, film and music conference held in Austin, will now be canceled. According to CNBC, Austin officials said there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Travis County, where Austin is located. But confirmed cases around the world passed 100k on Friday. But will this coronavirus also be an issue for Coachella? TMZ reports Riverside County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser made the announcement Sunday, saying RC is under a public health emergency because of a patient who's considered a "presumptive positive for coronavirus" after being tested by the Public Health Office and the hospital where the person is being treated is at a hospital that is about 25 minutes from the Coachella festival site in Indio, CA. But not cancellation has been confirmed for Coachella, as of yet. Riverside is the latest county, along with Orange and Los Angeles, to declare a public emergency.
