Some White Women Think Honey Pot Brand is Racist After Target Ad

I am about sick and tired of every woman, not of color, thinking they have to be included in every single thing. During Black History Month, I noticed a Target commercial and a black woman, speaking of her brand called Honey Pot. Okay, you have my attention. In the commercial, the founder of the brand, Beatrice Dixon was looking at her items on the shelves, something to be proud of! Then she makes a comment in the ad where she says, "The reason why it's so important for Honey Pot to do well is so that the next Black girl that comes up with a great idea, she can have a better opportunity." I love it. I'm not opposed to that statement. Plus, the commercial was a part of Target's "Founders We Believe In" series. Well because of that statement, some people call the commercial and product racist. Child, please! Of course these people aren't those of color. According to Essence, one woman posted, "Why specify Black?" on Trust Pilot. I mean, it was an ad during Black History Month, so why not? One other woman posted she would have bought the product, it the owner weren't racist. So basically, these women are hating because the owner is all for black girls being trailblazers and business owners. By the way, Trust Pilot is the brand's page with reviews. Well, Dixon said she didn't expect some of the backlash she received. But to point out, she also has white women who love the brand and will continue to support the brand as well. According to Essence, Dixon said, "I wasn’t necessarily blindsided [by the negative reactions], but I also didn’t have an expectation. This was not Honey Pot’s commercial, it was Target’s commercial. It was shot during Black History Month and for Women’s History Month. They chose that particular clip for a reason. I’m here for that story and that’s why I said it. I know that there’s a huge disparity when you look at the funding of businesses. I’m always going to be a proponent of us doing what we have to do so this isn’t even a conversation. The only thing we as Black women business owners can do is make really successful businesses." There you have it. And clearly, the brand is doing well, because I looked for it and it was sold out!
